Legal
Privacy.
We keep what the site needs to work, we do not sell any of it, and this page lists all of it — including the three small cookies.
What this covers
This page explains what we collect when you read, join or order from realgoodmood.com, what it is used for, who else sees it, and what you can ask us to do with it. It applies to the site and to the email we send. It does not cover other sites we link to.
What we collect
Reading. Nothing that names you. The server keeps ordinary logs — network address, browser, the pages requested and when — for a short time, to keep the site running and to notice abuse.
The age door. When you confirm you are 21 or older, a cookie remembers the answer so you are not asked again. It holds no personal data.
Email from us. An email address, when you leave one at the foot of a page, and the date you did. Subscribing is confirmed by a message to that address before anything else is sent.
Membership. Email address, a hashed password, your name if you give it, and your date of birth, which we must hold to show that the members’ pages are for adults.
Orders. Delivery name and address, what was ordered, the order’s status, the time and network address of your age and shipping confirmations, and correspondence about the order. Payment details are handled by the payment partner and never stored by us.
Correspondence. Whatever you put in a letter to us, along with your name and email address so we can reply.
Why we use it
- To run the site and keep it working, safe and available.
- To show that the parts of the site for adults are only reached by adults, which the law requires of us.
- To take, confirm, pack and deliver an order, and to keep the records tax and consumer law require.
- To reply to a letter, and to quote it — initials and month only — with your permission.
- To send the occasional email, never more than one a month, to people who asked for it.
We do not profile readers, we do not run advertising, and we do not sell, rent or trade personal information with anyone.
Cookies and similar things
The site sets three cookies of its own and none from advertisers.
| Cookie | What it does | How long |
|---|---|---|
| rgm_age_verified | Remembers that you confirmed you are 21 or older. | One year |
| session | Keeps you signed in as a member and carries short notices between pages. | Until you sign out, or the browser closes |
The typefaces are served by Google Fonts, which means your browser asks Google’s servers for them and Google sees your network address in the process. In the prototype the photographs and films are loaded from the stock libraries that host them, which see the same. Both will be brought in-house before launch.
How long we keep it
Server logs for a few weeks. A subscription until you unsubscribe. A membership until you close it, and for a short period afterwards while the closure completes. Order records, including the age and shipping confirmations, for as long as tax and consumer law require, which is typically seven years. Letters for as long as they are useful to the exchange, and quoted ones for as long as the quotation stands.
Your choices
You may ask what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, or ask for a copy. Write to us and we will answer within thirty days; we may need to confirm it is you asking. Some records — an order we must keep for tax law, an age confirmation we must keep for a regulator — cannot be deleted before their time, and we will say so.
Every email we send has an unsubscribe link, and it works. Members can change their details on the Account page. The motion switch and the age cookie can be cleared from your browser like any other cookie.
Residents of states with privacy laws of their own, including California, have the rights those laws describe. We do not sell or share personal information for advertising, so there is nothing to opt out of; the other rights are exercised by writing to us, and we will not treat you differently for doing so.
Under 21
The site is for adults. We do not knowingly keep information about anyone under 21, and we do not knowingly send them email. If you believe someone under 21 has joined or ordered, tell us and we will close the account and delete what we can.
How it is kept safe
The site is served over an encrypted connection. Passwords are stored hashed and cannot be read back. Members’ pages are never cached by a shared server. Access to records is limited to the people who need it, and we review that list. No system is perfect; if something goes wrong that affects you, we tell you.
Changes and how to reach us
We revise this page when the site changes. The date at the top says when. A change that affects members materially is announced by email before it takes effect.
Questions, requests and complaints go to the same desk: write to us. If we cannot resolve something, you may also take it to the consumer protection office or privacy regulator of your state.
